Disclosed is an apparatus (1) for treating timber by applying a treatment fluid. The apparatus (1) comprises a pre-treatment area (8) for application of pre-treatment fluid (9) to the timber and heating it. There is a treatment area (10) containing a treatment fluid (11) that is to be applied to the timber to be treated. The apparatus (1) also includes a conveyer system (2). The conveyer system (2) is configured to move the timber from the pre-treatment area (8) to the treatment area (10). The treatment area (10) is a cooling area. The pre-treatment area and the treatment area (10) are both open. Also, disclosed is a method of treating timber by applying a treatment fluid (11) to a timber. The method includes the steps of: · Placing timber in an open pre-treatment area (8), · Applying a pre-treatment fluid (9) and heat to the timber, · Removing the timber from the pre-treatment area (8), and · Placing the heated timber in an open cooling treatment area (10) and applying a treatment fluid (11).
