An underwater light 10 for connection to the wall 11 of a body of water. The underwater light 10 has a heat generating component, such as an LED 18, and a heat 5 sink 16 for dissipating heat generated by the LED 18. The LED 18 is mounted relative to the heat sink 16 to create a heat transfer and the heat sink 16 has a heat dissipating portion 64 that in use extends into the body of water when the light 10 is installed. The heat dissipation portion 64 has opposite sides 65 and 66 which are each immersed in the water so that heat generated by the LED 18 can be dissipated 10 through the sides 65 and 66 of the heat dissipating portion 64. 1r.
