Disclosed is a vehicle air conditioner equipped with a simple waterproof structure that is capable of preventing leakage into the interior of a vehicle from an expansion valve cover or the mating faces of a vertically divided case on an air conditioning unit (an HVAC unit) without using a waterproof cover, or the like. The vehicle air conditioner has an expansion valve cover (6, 7) divided vertically into two that is disposed on the outside of the vertically divided case on the air conditioning unit within the vehicle in a manner so as to extend over the mating faces of said case, and enables an expansion valve to be disposed within said expansion valve cover (6, 7), with the interior of said expansion valve cover (6, 7) communicating to an engine room via an opening disposed in a toe board, wherein a stepped section (11), in which the inner side (9) is lowered and the outer side (10) is raised, is formed on the top and bottom mating faces of the expansion valve cover (6, 7).
