COMBUSTION CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

Disclosed is a combustion controller for an internal combustion engine which allows premixed combustion and diffusion combustion to take place in a combustion chamber. The controller changes the setting of the engine so that with reducing engine load, the ratio of the amount of injected fuel for premixed combustion to the total amount of injected fuel increases and the ratio of the amount of injected fuel for diffusion combustion decreases. This allows for gradually reducing the ratio of the amount of heat generated by diffusion combustion to the total amount of heat generated during a combustion period in which premixed combustion and diffusion combustion occur simultaneously. It is thus possible to improve exhaust gas emission and reduce combustion noise during light load operation, while ensuring combustion with stability during heavy load operation.
