Disclosed is a solar cell which is configured by laminating a refractive index adjusting layer, a porous metal film and a photoelectric conversion layer. The solar cell has a structure wherein: the porous metal film is located on the light irradiation side; the porous metal film is in direct contact with the photoelectric conversion layer; the porous metal film has a plurality of opening portions penetrating therethrough; the surface of the porous metal film and the inner surfaces of the opening portions are at least partially covered by the refractive index adjusting layer; and the refractive index adjusting layer has a refractive index of 1.35-4.2 (inclusive). By using a metal thin film, which has been subjected to nanoprocessing, as an electrode of a solar cell, the solar cell can perform photoelectric conversion efficiently due to an electric field enhancement effect.
