PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material particle which contains a tin oxide as a principal component and can enhance an cycle characteristic; to provide an electrode; to provide a lithium ion secondary battery; and to provide a method for manufacturing the active material particle. SOLUTION: The active material particle 200 has a core 202 and a shell 204 that covers the core 202, in which the core 202 and the shell 204 contain the tin oxides as the principal components, and the number of moles of oxygen atoms to tin atoms in the tin oxide of the shell portion 204 is larger than the number of moles of oxygen atoms with respect to tin atoms in the tin oxide of the core 202.
