547,415. Motor-driven rotary hoes &c. HOWARD, A. C., and ROTARY HOES, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1941, No. 2547. [Class 6 (i)] The transmission gearing from the motor 3 to the road wheels 2 and to the rotary hoe or other implement 79 is encased. From the engine 3, motion is transmitted through a friction clutch to a main shaft 30 mounted in ball-bearings in the casing 1 and thence by bevel-gearing to a cross-shaft 34 to which are keyed slidable pinions 37, 38, 39 of a variable-speed gear. By engagement of one of these with the complementary pinions 42, 43, 44, movement is transmitted to the axle 50 and through slipping clutches to the road wheels 2. A slidable pinion 61 on the shaft may be moved into engagement with a pinion on an inclined shaft 68 passing through a housing 76. The drive is thus transmitted through bevel gearing in the casing 70 to a shaft 73 on the projecting ends of which are carried the rotary hoes or other implements. A shield 4 attached to the casing 1 covers the hoes. Engine, gear and clutch control levers are mounted adjacent to the handles 6, and the skid or w heel support 24 may be adjusted to alter the depth of tilth by the lever 27. |
