PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which can store image data of a picked-up image as much as possible even when the remaining storage capacity of a storage means is small, and a data processing program thereof. SOLUTION: In a digital still camera, when recording compressed image data which are compressed image data of a picked-up image picked up by an image pickup device, in a memory card, MPU determines in step S12 whether the compressed image data can be stored in the memory card based on the remaining storage capacity of the memory card and when it is determined that it cannot be stored, at least one of the compressed image data to be stored and already existing compressed image data already compressed and stored in the memory card is further subjected to high compression processing in step S13 or step S15.
