PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more simply configured money bar holding device for discriminating the propriety of a money bar. SOLUTION: In correspondence to a 10-yen money bar-holding part 5B, the money-bar holding device is provided with: a first light shielding sensor having an optical path Pa for detecting proper 10 yen-money bars 6B among money bars 6, which can be held by the 10-yen money bar holding part 5B and 5-yen money bars 6D as a portion of the money bars 6, other than the proper 10-yen money bars 6B; a second light-shielding sensor, having an optical path Pb for detecting 1-yen money bars 6A, as all the money bars 6 other than 5-yen money bars 6D among the money bars 6, which can be held by the money bar holding part 5B; and an output control part for, when it is discriminated that improper 1 yen money bars 6A are held by the 10 yen money bar holding part 5B on the basis of the detected result of the light-shielding sensors, making an output part perform abnormality output. Consequently, it is possible to discriminate the propriety of the money bars 6 held by the money-bar holding part 5, by a relatively simply configured money-bar holding device having the two light-shielding sensors.
