PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a rod lens array using a fine-diameter plastic rod lens, in particular, with high accuracy at low cost. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the rod lens array includes the steps of: temporarily fixing a substrate material 42 to a substrate material mounting surface 12 of the square pole-shaped metal press upper base having a turning function along the lengthwise axial line; turning the press upper base by 90 degrees to temporarily fix a plurality of rod lenses 44 on a rod lens arrangement face 18; further turning the press upper base by 90 degrees to move the substrate material to a press lower base; applying an adhesive to the upper surface of the substrate material; and further turning the press upper base by 90 degrees to press the substrate material toward the rod lenses temporarily fixed to the press upper base for bonding the substrate material and the rod lenses together, and consequently, forming a rod array component wherein a rod lens material is stuck to one surface of the substrate material.
