PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode having a structure in which filaments are unlikely to deform even when a high melting point metal material (for example, rhenium-tungsten) whose resistance value (electric resistance value) and thermal expansion coefficient are greater than those of tungsten is used as a filament, and to provide a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The electrode includes, as a strand filament, a wire 1 formed by mutually twisting together a tungsten filament 2 and a filament 3 formed of a high melting point metal material having a higher resistance value than tungsten.
