PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulating material which easily sticks fast to the shape of the column of a building such as a house and is easily filled in a clearance thanks to excellent heat insulating performance and moderate rigidity, and excels in heat insulating performance over a long period of time thanks to sufficient durability. SOLUTION: The heat insulating material for the column includes a core material having a cavity inside and wrapped with an outer skin material with a gas barrier property with a permeability of carbon dioxide of 15 ml/m<SP>2</SP>*day (at measuring conditions 23°C and 0% RH) or less, and filled inside with gas lower in heat conductivity than nitrogen.
