The device (1) has a working piston (11) slidably supported within a working cylinder (5) and dividing the working cylinder into two workspaces (7, 9). A piston rod (25) is firmly fixed with the working piston for transferring forces on the working piston through one of the workspaces. A hydraulic device (39) associated with the workspaces is adjusted or fixed by characteristics e.g. damping rate, of the device. The hydraulic device supplies and separates hydraulic energy to/from the device using a motor generator pump unit (43), where the pump unit is bidirectionally operatable.
