<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aerator, wherein an incident angle of splashing sewage of surface aeration to the water surface is appropriately adjusted to cause a water flow at the bottom of a sewage treatment tank while securing vertical circulating water flow in the sewage treatment tank, so that efficient aeration is made possible even in a deep sewage treatment tank. <P>SOLUTION: The aerator 1 is provided with an agitator blade 13 mounted on a rotary shaft 12 driven by a motor 11, and a cylindrical body 15 disposed so as to cover the rotary shaft 12, and constituted so that aeration is made by sucking sewage on the bottom of the sewage treatment tank A by rotating the rotary shaft 12 and sprinkling it from the upper part of the free surface.
