PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic tensioner capable of simplifying a structure of a tensioner body. SOLUTION: The hydraulic tensioner 1 has a plunger 2 energized in a direction protruding to an exterior by a plunger spring 11, and applies tension to a cam chain or a timing belt. A discharge passage 3 discharging oil to outside from a low pressure oil chamber 9 is provided in the tensioner body 5, and projection of the plunger 2 is regulated by engaging a stopper pin SP from the outside with an outlet of the discharge passage 3 and an engagement part provided in the plunger 2.
