PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device that reduces power consumption as much as possible, and a low power consumption control method for the same. SOLUTION: A power management unit (SATAC 111 and MPU 114) transmits, upon receipt of a read request from a host device 200, a NANDC transfer instruction to a NANDC 113 to transfer requested data from a NAND memory 130 to a RAM 120, and enters a low power consumption mode. When the NANDC 113 completes the transfer, the power management unit recovers from the low power consumption mode, and transfers the data transferred to the RAM 120 to the host device 200.
