<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of improving the transmittance of light. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first circularly polarizing plate 48a, a liquid crystal cell 33 disposed on the light emission side, and a second circularly polarizing plate 48b disposed on the light emission side. The first circularly polarizing plate 48a converts incident light to circularly polarized light. A medium included in the liquid crystal cell 33 indicates optical isotropy when a voltage is not applied and indicates optical anisotropy when a voltage is applied. The second circularly polarizing plate 48b converts the circularly polarized light transmitted through the liquid crystal cell 33 to linearly polarized light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
