PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device which improves the picture quality of a video content recorded on an optical disk, and to provide a recording method to the optical disk. SOLUTION: When a mounted optical disk is a hybrid disk 3, the optical disk device 1 reads the video content recorded in a ROM layer, and determines whether the improvement of the picture quality is possible. When it is determined that the improvement of the picture quality of the video content is possible, the optical disk device 1 improves the picture quality of the video content and records the video content improved in picture quality to the RE layer of the hybrid disk 3.
