PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side airbag device for a vehicle capable of properly protecting the chest of a passenger not only when the passenger does not move to a vehicle front side with respect to the vehicle at a side collision, but also when the passenger moves to the vehicle front side with respect to the vehicle. SOLUTION: The side airbag device includes an airbag 30 equipped with a main bag 31 and an arm chamber 32. When the passenger P does not move to the vehicle front side at the side collision or the movement amount to the vehicle front side is relatively small, the amount of gas supplied to the arm chamber 32 is made zero or small so that the chest part P1 can be protected with the airbag 30 without excessively pressing an upper arm part P2 with the arm chamber 32. When the movement amount of the passenger P to the vehicle front side at the side collision is relatively large, the amount of gas supplied to the arm chamber 32 is made large so that the chest part P1 moved to the vehicle front side can be protected with the arm chamber 32.
