PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus in which paper jamming or paper stain caused by deformation of a sheet in accordance with the placement direction of the form is eliminated. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording apparatus has a sensor that detects dimensions of the sheet in the vertical direction and the lateral direction and, when it is detected that the placement direction of the sheet is lateral with respect to the conveyance direction, a deformation countermeasure operation of the sheet such as the widening of a gap between an inkjet recording head and the sheet, the reducing of ink ejection amount and the lengthening of waiting time between outward scanning and return operation of the recording head is executed and, thereby, the sheet is smoothly conveyed and the stain of the sheet is prevented.
