The device (5) has a safety bar (6) movably supported at a lift car (1) in a direction of a wall of a lift shaft (4) in a locking position, where the device is arranged at the lift car. The bar forms a stop unit at a stop element (7) to prevent movement of the lift car in a safety region (s), which lies above or below the stop element, in the lift shaft. An actuator is coupled with the safety bar for movement in to the locking position or from the locking position into a rest position.
