The device has an evaluation-or control unit (40) and a sensor unit (30) for detection of crash relative information (p1,p2). The evaluation-or control unit comprises a computing unit, which receives pressure data as crash relevant information from the sensor unit and evaluates for distinguishing of different crash situations for generation of output signal (S1,S2). The computing unit determines physical parameters basing on the pressure data and uses for distinguishing the different crash situations and for generation of a control signal for an actuation element. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling an adaptive crash structure; and (2) a device for an adaptive degradation of crash energy.
