PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition which has both high braking properties and low rolling resistance on wet road surfaces, while maintaining a high elastic modulus, and has improved processability, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same. SOLUTION: There are provided the rubber composition characterized by comprising 100 pts.mass of a dienic rubber, 30 to 150 pts.mass of silica having a BET specific surface area of 100 to 300 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and 0.1 to 5 pts.mass of 2-(N, N-dibenzylthiocarbamoylthio)benzothiazole; and the pneumatic tire using the rubber composition for the tread (3).
