<p>A predetermined proportion of a low-viscosity liquid is added automatically and continuously to a stream of a viscous spinning solution by suction into a pipe through which the spinning solution is pumped by means of two gear pumps in tandem, the point of introduction being located between the pumps and the pump preceding this point having a smaller capacity than the one following it. In the example a viscose spinning solution is supplied under pressure from a reservoir through a main supply pipe, and about one-eighth of the rate of flow through the main supply pipe is shunted through a shunt pipe in which is located a pump adjusted to deliver 144 cc./min. of viscose through the shunt. About 12 cm. further along the shunt is a second pump adjusted to a capacity of 168 cc./min. As a result 24 cc./min. of a dyestuff solution or a pigment suspension is drawn from a reservoir, through a supply pipe communicating with the portion of the shunt between the two pumps, and is added to the stream of viscose solution flowing through the shunt. The shunt and the main viscose supply pipe discharge the viscose into a mixer from which the dyed or pigmented viscose is delivered to the spinning machine.
