A rotary switch for controlling the heating elements of an electric cooker has three terminals L, I, II for connection to the elements and two terminals P1, P2 for connection to the supply leads. Two moving contacts 9, 11 and 10, 12 are connected to each terminal P1, P2, one of the contacts 9, 10 connected to each terminal P1, P2, co-operating with fixed contacts 7, 8 at the ends of the transverse arm 6 of the T-shaped terminal I in one plane, and the other moving contacts 11, 12 connected to the terminals P1, P2 co-operating with fixed contacts 4, 5 carried by the terminals L, II in a second plane. The moving contacts are actuated by a cam 14 on a shaft 13 which may be positioned by indexing mechanism, Fig. 3 (not shown).
