The method involves positioning a measuring object (36) in a spatial position relative to a measuring head (32) i.e. probe head. A set of space coordinates at the object is determined using the head. Another set of space coordinates is determined, and the object is brought into another spatial position before determining latter set of coordinates, where the latter spatial position is different from the former spatial position. A set of measuring positions (38) is distributed along a movement direction and located diagonal to orthogonal spatial directions (16, 20, 24). An independent claim is also included for a coordinate measuring apparatus for determination of space coordinates at a measuring object.
