The invention provides an intravascular stent prepared by applying to the body of a balloon-expandable stent a solution which comprises a solvent, a polymer, and a therapeutic substance and then drying the solution. Stents having a polymeric, therapeutic substance-releasing coating in which the coating is less than 0.005 cm thick and/or in which the ratio of therapeutic substance to polymer is in the range of from about 10:1 to about 1:100 form a particularly preferred aspect of the invention.
