PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heterocyclic-substituted aromatic compound detecting or trapping a target molecule sized≤1 nm in a liquid sample within a short time with high sensitivity. SOLUTION: The heterocyclic-substituted aromatic compound is exemplified by 3,5-bis(imidazol-1-yl-methyl)-2,4,6-tetramethylphenol. The compound is used in a molecule detecting agent, a molecule detecting method and a molecule trapping method, which can readily detect the target molecule such as a metal ion contained in food, soil, etc., on the basis of formation of a capsule-shaped trapping molecule.
