PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image projection device, capable of quickly detecting unintended light caused during display of an image, and capable of stopping the display of the image. SOLUTION: The image projection device includes: a light source 3 in which light emission quantity is controlled by an emitted light emission quantity command value LB which is the command value of the light emission quantity; a scanner 5 which scans and projects the light emitted from the light source 3 onto a screen 7; a light quantity sensor 6 which detects the light quantity of the light sent from the screen 7 side as a light reception quantity RA; a light emission quantity command value generation part 1 which generates a reference light emission quantity command value LA used for generating the light emission quantity command value LB on the basis of a video signal IMG input from the outside; and a light emission quantity command value conversion unit 2 which generates the light emission quantity command value LB on the basis of a light reception quantity RA and the reference light emission quantity command value LA. The light emission quantity command value conversion unit 2 compares the light quantity ratio which is the value obtained by dividing the light reception quantity value RA by the light emission quantity of the light emitted from the light source 3 with a preliminarily set threshold, and outputs the light emission quantity command value LB with which the light is not emitted from the light source 3 when the light quantity ratio is smaller than the threshold value to the light source 3.
