PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem with a conventional standby device, wherein information relating to a monitoring unit cannot be acquired by the standby device when failure occurs in the monitoring unit of an active device. SOLUTION: A monitoring system 100 has a first monitoring device 1 including a first monitoring unit 11 for monitoring a device 200 to be monitored, a first failure detecting unit 13 for detecting failure of the first monitoring unit 11, and a second memory 15 for holding information relating to the first monitoring unit 11, a second monitoring device 2 including a second monitoring unit 21 for monitoring the device 200 to be monitored, a first communication path 3, and a fourth communication path 6. When detecting failure in the first monitoring unit 11, the first failure detecting unit 13 outputs an failure signal to the second monitoring unit 21 via the first communication path 3, while the second monitoring unit 21 acquires information relating to the first monitoring unit 11 held by the second memory 15 via the fourth communication path 6 upon receiving the failure signal.
