A sequence control valve (130), which is provided between a forward clutch (C1) and an output-side hydraulic cylinder (46c) of an output-side adjustable pulley (46), and between a secondary modulator valve (128) and a clamping force control valve (110), and which controls the relationship between a belt clamping pressure (Pb) and a clutch engagement pressure (Pc) so that the torque capacity of the output-side hydraulic cylinder (46c) of the output-side adjustable pulley (46) is usually larger than the torque capacity of the forward clutch (C1), enables as prompt a vehicle start as possible without slippage of the output-side adjustable pulley (46), and prevents slippage of the output-side adjustable pulley (46) even when the battery is low.</p>
