770,691. Rectilinear - motion bearings. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 13, 1955 [Oct. 13, 1954], No. 29480/54. Class 12 (1). A traveller 1, Fig. 1, slidable along parallel fixed tubular slides 2, 3 has axially spaced bearings 4, 5 surrounding the slide 2 and a single bearing 6 surrounding the slide 3. The bearings 4, 5 each comprise two inwardlydirected fixed projections P, Q and a spring- pressed shoe R. The bearing 6 comprises a fixed projection S and a diametrically opposed spring-pressed shoe T lying in a plane perpendicular to that containing the slides 2, 3. In a modification, a traveller 9 is mounted on parallel tubes 13, 14 by bearings 10, 12, each comprising small wheels 30. The traveller 9 carries bearings 20, 22 which support a second pair of tubular slides 23, 24 to which is attached a carriage 40. This pair of slides lies perpendicularly across the first pair so that the carriage 40 can be moved in any direction by suitable drum and tape mechanism. |
