PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater in which efficient use of hot water in an intermediate temperature layer enables efficient utilization of hot water, and improved usability and high energy saving performance are achieved. SOLUTION: The water heater includes: a first hot water outlet pipe 3 connected to the upper part of a hot water storage tank 1; a water supply pipe 18 connected to the lower part of the storage tank; a second hot water outlet pipe 4 connected in the vertical direction of the hot water storage tank 1 between the first hot water outlet pipe 3 and the water supply pipe 18; a hot water outlet port 24 connected at the outlet side of a mixing valve 22; and an outlet-pipes merging pipe 21 in which the first hot water outlet pipe 3 and the second hot water outlet pipe 4 are merged by connection. The water heater controls, on the basis of a temperature detector 30 for detecting the temperatures of hot water in the outlet-pipes merging pipe 21, and a hot water supply set temperature of the outlet port 24, the operation of: a flow control valve 20 provided on the second hot water outlet pipe 4; and the mixing valve 22, wherein the outlet-pipes merging pipe 21 and a water supply branch pipe 19 branched from the water supply pipe 18 are connected to the inlet side ports thereof.
