PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that printing should be interrupted when a main tank is brought into an end state. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: two sub-tanks 35A and 35B which feed inks to nozzle trains which discharge droplets of the same colors; and reversible pumps 241A and 241B which send inks from a main tank 10 to the sub-tanks 35A and 35B and can suck inks from the sub-tanks 35A and 35B to the main tank 10. For example, part of the ink in the sub-tank 35B having a larger residual ink quantity is recovered to the main tank 10, and from the main tank 10, the ink is fed to the sub-tank 35A having a smaller residual ink quantity, thereby making the two sub-tanks 35A and 35B have residual ink qauntities which are sufficient for printing.
