Flexible floor covering for aircraft

A flexible self-adhesive floor covering, and one partic. for aircraft, is produced with a flexible sheet of flame-resistant type of polysiloxane. The underside of this polymer is bonded to a flexible non-toxic material which is difficult to burn and which produces little fumes, and a self-adhesive covering is applied to the underside of this. The flexible material is pref. made from phenol/aldehyde fibres and is bonded to the polysiloxane with an adhesive based also on polysiloxane but other suitable adhesives include acrylic and epoxy resins; the polysiloxane also pref. has a layer of a cloth made of glass or carbon fibres. The prod. has the top layer (2) of the flame-resistant polysiloxane with (e.g.) a corrugated finish to give a good grip and to allow liqs. to drain off. It pref. has an embedded layer (4) of a fine glass fabric, produced e.g. by hot pressing two polymers layers with the fabric between them. The underside is bonded durably to the flexible layer (6) whose properties mean that it does not . liberate toxic gases when severely heated. The flexible layer (6) is bonded directly (no adhesive) to the polysiloxane (2) by the "Auma" equipment continuously. The lower surface of this layer (6) serves to provide good adhesion for the self-adhesive layer (7), but it also produces good insulation against heat and sound and retains the overall flexibility.
