Class 52(5) A counterbalanced support comprises a support bracket, a swinging articulated arm connected to the bracket and to the object to be supported, a device counterbalancing the weight of the object during movement from its uppermost position to a lowered position and connected to parts of the articulated arm, and independent resilient means counterbalancing most of the weight of the object during movement from the lowered to the lowermost position. As shown, an X-ray tube 45 is mounted on a wall &c. by a support bracket 10 and parallel motion linkages 17, 26 and 35, movement of the linkages from the uppermost position (Fig. 1) to a horizontal position being counterbalanced by the resistance of springs, in a pair of cylinders 47, to the withdrawal of -plunger rods 55 from the cylinders, the rods and cylinders being pivoted at 41 and 54 to the linkage. Below the horizontal position of the linkages downward movement of the X-ray tube is counterbalanced by the engagement of a projection 74 on a link 36 with a cylinder 71 which is pressed into a bore 63 in a plate 34 of the linkage, against the action of a coil spring 73. Inward movement of the cylinder 71 is stopped by a rubber cushion 70. |
