PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin having solubility in a non-chlorine-based solvent in addition to heat resistance and excellent in optical characteristics in the ultraviolet region. SOLUTION: The polyester resin is composed of a dicarboxylic acid component and a dihydric phenol component. The polyester resin includes 50 mol% or more of cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid represented by general formula (I) in 100 mol% of the dicarboxylic acid component and 50 mol% or more of dihydric phenol represented by general formula (II) in 100 mol% of the dihydric phenol component. In general formula (II), R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently a 1-5C hydrocarbon group, a chlorine atom, or a fluorine atom; p and q are each independently an integer of 0-4; and W<SP>1</SP>is one selected from the group consisting of 7-11C straight chain, branched, or cyclic hydrocarbon groups which may include a benzene ring.
