The device has a marking needle body (1) supported at a housing (2) and extending along a longitudinal axis (5), a pretensioning mechanism (11) and a marking element (12). The marking element is rotatably supported at a free end of the marking needle body. An adjustment device (8) adjusts pretension transferred from the pretensioning mechanism to the needle body. A support surface is hardened by a coating. The pretensioning mechanism is a mechanical or pneumatic spring, where the marking element is formed as a ball. The adjustment device is adjustable in a clamped condition.
