摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetooptical type flaw detection method which enables the flaw detection of a wide range of an insection target to be performed with high resolving power in a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The magnetooptical type flaw detection method is constituted by applying a magnetic field to an inspection target 1 and detecting the leak magnetic field produced in the surface flaw part 2 of the inspection target 1 by the rotation of the polarization surface of the linear polarized light allowed to penetrate through the magnetooptical effect element 10 allowed to approach the inspection target 1. The magnetooptical effect element 10 includes the magnetooptical film 12 of an in-plane magnetized film wherein a magnetization easy axis is directed toward the inside of a plane and the magnetooptical film is opposed to the surface of the inspection target. Then, the magnetic field is applied in the direction of crossing the inside of the plane at a right angle by the permanent magnet 18 arranged on the back side of the inspection target 1.
