The device has an air bag (2) i.e. driver front-air bag, arranged behind an outlet opening, which is provided in a region of a liner in a front seat passenger side or in a region of a steering wheel hub. A drive unit is attached with the air bag. A shroud (3) closes the outlet opening and is designed as a picture screen i.e. touch-screen. The shroud is attached with another drive unit (4), via which movement of the shroud is caused to release the outlet opening transverse to a main deployment direction of the air bag. A control device causes controlling and activation of the drive units.
