PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plating pretreatment method for an aluminum alloy by which a plating film having both excellent smoothness and excellent adhesiveness is obtained. SOLUTION: The plating pretreatment method 10 for an object to be treated made of an aluminum alloy member includes an etching step 12 of etching the object by using alkaline etching solution, a desmutting step 13 of cleaning a surface of the etched object by using a desmutting solution containing phosphoric acid and hydrogen peroxide, and zinc-substitution steps 14, 16 of immersing the desmutted objected in zinc substitution solution.
