<p>In an active matrix type liquid crystal display device, a pixel electrode (1) has one field electrode (2) or two or more field electrodes (2) conducting with each other. The field electrode (2) includes: a first electrode (cross-shaped electrode) (3) having a pattern that partitions a first area into a plurality of second areas (R1, R2, R3, R4); and a plurality of stripe-shaped electrodes (4) provided on the second areas so as to extend from the first electrode with a space in between. An auxiliary capacitor line (CSL) is opposed to the pixel electrode (1) in the thickness direction so as to form an auxiliary capacitance. The auxiliary capacitor line (CSL) is also opposed to the edges (2e, 2e') of the first area in the thickness direction, but is not disposed so as to extend along the edges (2e, 2e'). This can eliminate the orientation disturbance of liquid crystal molecules when performing a polymer sustained alignment treatment.</p> |
