The present invention relates to a transport and storage unit for a geothermal probe tube assembly (1), comprising a geothermal probe tube assembly (1) for utilizing near-surface geothermal energy. The geothermal probe tube assembly comprises a tube (2), which is made of a polymeric material and has a helical or spiral design at least in some regions, and a layer enclosing a lumen (4). The invention further relates to transport packaging (3), which surrounds the geothermal probe tube assembly (1) in a helically or spirally designed region of the tube (2), wherein the polymeric material is a cross-linked polymeric material, and wherein the transport packaging (3) holds the geothermal probe tube assembly (1) under axial bias in a first, contracted state, in which the geothermal probe tube assembly (1) occupies a smaller volume than it does in a second, expanded state, in which the transport packaging (3) is no longer present.
