<p>A transfer member assembly (2) comprises a transfer member (4) for the transfer of a signal, power or fluid such as an optical fibre, an electrical conductor or a gas or hydraulic line. The transfer member assembly (2) comprises a shroud (6) formed around the transfer member (4) and a composite material (8) comprising a matrix formed around the shroud (6). The composite material (8) comprises longitudinal fibres in a resin matrix. The resin matrix penetrates at least part-way into the shroud (6). The penetration of the matrix into the shroud 6 is controlled during manufacture of the transfer member assembly (2), for example by controlling shroud permeability or by controlling the resin viscosity or pressure utilised in a pultrusion process utilised to form the composite.</p> |
