PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant for metalworking (a water-dispersible lubricant) which is used when metalworking is performed, wherein the stably dispersed state of which is ensured to improve re-dispersibility of a lubricating component thereof after left standing for a while by improving the water dispersibility of water-hardly-soluble powder being another lubricating component thereof. SOLUTION: The lubricant for metalworking is the water-dispersible lubricant obtained by uniformly dispersing the water-hardly-soluble powder having lubricating ability, at least one surfactant selected from the group comprising polyoxyethylene alkyl ether-type surfactants, sorbitan-type surfactants and polycarboxylic acid-type anionic surfactants and a water-containing pasty substance into water. The lubricant for metalworking is characterized in that the water dispersibility and re-dispersibility of the lubricating components are improved by strong dispersive action of the specified surfactant.
