<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium ion secondary battery with more excellent cycle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: An anode 10 includes an anode active material layer 102 in which a first layer 1 containing silicon as an anode active material and a second layer 2 containing silicon and nickel as anode active materials are alternately layered on an anode current collector 101. An insertion layer 3 is inserted into the first layer 1 and the second layer 2. The insertion layer 3 is to be at least either a layered oxygen-containing region or a nitrogen-containing region. With this, stress accompanying expansion and contraction at charging and discharging in the anode active material layer 102 is alleviated.
