The furniture, such as a table (1), a desk or a writing desk, enables an earthquake shelter to be constituted. According to the invention, the furniture includes at least two box frame modules (2) each including: two lower beams (3) and two upper beams (4) which are stacked in pairs, one lower beam (3) and one upper beam (4) being common to both box frame modules, each module having an isosceles triangle footprint, two triangulated uprights (6) inserted between a lower beam and an upper beam, the lower beams being provided with a damper (10) in the area of the junction with the triangulated uprights, a footrest (11) used for bracing having a horizontal part (11a) connecting two adjacent lower beams (3) and a diagonal part (11b) connecting two upper beams (4) constituting a footrest and a seating platform, at least one crosspiece (12) bent into a V shape and extending over both box frame modules and connecting the two upper beams (4) extending over two adjacent box frames, and a plate (14) attached to the crosspiece(s) (12).
