OLIGONUCLEOTIDE DERIVATIVE

Provided is an oligonucleotide derivative which associates only with a short complementary strand and does not associate with long complementary strand RNA or complementary DNA. The oligonucleotide derivative is represented by general formula (1). The oligonucleotide derivative exhibits a high association strength with short RNA, but exhibits only a low association strength with long RNA. These properties are useful as a nucleic acid probe in a method for selectively detecting RNA which functions as active RNA after cleaving long precursor RNA in a cell into small RNA, for example, an active substance such as microRNA. Further, the oligonucleotide derivative is used as a nucleic acid detection probe and is also used in an oligonucleotide array and a pharmaceutical composition.
