PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling transmission power of a base station in a wireless communication system and a method thereof are provided to determine the transmission power of the base station in order to maximize the coverage. CONSTITUTION: An information providing part(800) comprises a distance estimation part(802) and a parameter determining part(806). The information providing part determines the parameter which maximizes the cell coverage based on a noise power level and an interference power level. A power control determination part(810) determines the transmission power state based on the parameter.
