Class 112 [Also in Group XXV] The invention relates to a stitching foot for presenting to the needles of a sewing-machine the parts of a zip-fastener of the type in which two intermeshed helical filaments A, provided at their non-meshed sides with longitudinally-directed threads, are sewn to two stringer tapes B 1 , B 2 , with guiding cords C covering the longitudinally directed threads. The foot comprises a lower plate I and an upper plate 2 having a stitching foot support 3, guiding means comprising a plate 8 being disposed on the feeding side of the foot between the plates for guiding the stringer tapes in a crossed-over flat conditions, their inner edges, referring to the finished fastener subsequently being directed, after the tapes are uncrossed, in parallel relationship between the two plates 1 & 2. The upper plate 2 is provided with a notch 19 through which the intermeshed filaments pass. Two guide members 23 adjustable by means of nuts 27 engaging recesses 26 are disposed in transverse slots 21, 22 in the top of the upper plate, extend over the notch in front of the needle passage 18 and are each provided with a groove 25 through which the guiding cords C are led to pass from above on to the longitudinally directed threads of the two meshing filaments. A groove 20 on the underside of the upper plate extends from behind the needle passage 18 to permit the passage of the part of the finished fastener comprising the meshed filaments with the cords sewn into position. The lower plate 1 is stepped, having an upper surface portion 1a and a lower upper surface portion 1b over which the guide plate 8 is disposed. The guide plate is tranversely displaceable in grooves 9 between the upper and lower plates by an adjusting screw 8d and has two tape guiding recesses 12, 13, one on each side of the plate, inclined towards each other across the longitudinal central line of the foot. A guide in the form of an elongated leg may also be arranged in the foot behind, in the direction of feed, the plate 8, the width of the leg corresponding to the distance apart of the two tapes in the finished fastener. |
